7/30/2007

Well I decided last night that Logan needed to be on Soy formula. He was in so much pain after every feeding that I couldn't take it anymore. Ben and I were both on Soy formula when we were little so I think Logan just can't handle the regular milk formula.

Does anyone know anything about the medication AXID? The pediatrician put him on it, but I was researching it and it doesn't really say that it has been proven to work on children. We only give him 1 mL twice a day, but I wonder how much good it is actually doing. I read that it is for stomach ulcers. I think he just has a really bad gas problem. He toots all day, but for some reason he seems to still have gas pains. Hopefully the Soy formula will help with that. I am going to try putting some Karo syrup in his bottle. I have heard from a few people that it will help with constipation better than the juice.

I will post 2 week pictures sometime today. Thanks for all of your well wishes!!!

My "technical" due date

Well today was my technical due date and Logan is 1 week and 6 days old today. It's crazy to think that he is almost 2 weeks old. We went to the pediatrician again on Friday and he weighed 8 lb 4 oz. He is still having some gas problems so they put him on some medication to see if it will help. The doctor called it "Baby Zantac". He seems to be pooping a little more regularly today thank goodness. I gave him some apple/prune juice yesterday to try to help him poop and it made his stomach really upset. I think we are going to stick with a little bit of pear juice every day. He seemed to do pretty good on that.

So far we are having pretty good nights and have gotten him on a pretty regular 3 hour schedule. He got his first "real" bath today since his little belly button fell off on Friday at the doctor's office. He is not a big fan of the baths, but he smells so good when he gets done. I think we will bathing a lot until he puts on some more weight because he seems to be between sizes on the diapers and keeps peeing on himself. The petite diapers are too small and the newborn diapers are still a little too big. He has a tiny little butt that doesn't fill them out.

Logan's 1st Pediatrician Visit

7/24/07 - Logan had his first pediatrician appointment today. Everything was good. He has a little bit of jaundice and he dropped a few ounces. He now weighs 7lb 12.5 oz. He has had really bad gas pains and hasn't pooped since Sunday so the doctor told us to change his formula to Similac Alimentum and to give him some pear juice. We have to take him back on Friday for a check up.

Welcome to the World Logan! 7/17/07

Logan Alexander was born on 7/17/07 at 7:08pm. I checked into the hospital at 10:00pm on Monday July 16th and they put in the Cervadil to soften my cervix. At 5:00am on Tuesday they took it out and let me shower and get prepared for the long day ahead. At 6:00am they started me on pitocin. The doctor came in around 8:30am and checked for dilation and I was about 1-2cm so she broke my water. As soon as she broke my water the contractions started coming about 1-2 minutes apart. I was in a LOT of pain and they almost immediately started some pain meds thru my IV's. The doctor came back around 10:00 and I was dilated to about 3cm. I asked for the epidural and got it at about 10:30. Life was good after that. I seemed to be progressing pretty good for the doctor, but Logan was not dropping. By about 4:00pm I was 5cm, 100% effaced and Logan was still at -3. We discussed that if she came back in a few hours and he had not moved then we should talk about a c-section. She came back in at 6:00pm and nothing had changed. We decided to schedule the c-section. After that everything went so fast. The anesthesiologist came in at 6:30 and started me on the extra-special c-section epidural. My body was completely numb from the chest down it was weird feeling. At about 6:45 they started rolling us down to the OR. Once we were in the room it seemed to go by so quick. They prepped me, pulled up the blue screen, put the oxygen mask on, called Ben in the room and started the surgery. At 7:08pm Logan came into this world!!! Here are some pics of the wonderful day!

He was not a happy camper!

I had a fever going into surgery so once he was born they took me to recovery and then he had to go to the nursery to be checked to make sure he didn't have a fever. They started me on antibiotics and gave him some for 24 hours. Everything was fine though. I went to my room at about 9:30pm and Logan was rolled in shortly thereafter. There were about 15 people in the room. It was so great to finally be able to show off my little boy. Ben is such a proud daddy. He did such a great job in the OR and took some great pictures!

We were in the hospital until Saturday. Those 4 days were filled with meds, visitors, sleep, tv, etc. We were able to get some sleep at night while Logan rested peacefully in the nursery.

We came home on Saturday and I had a rough few first days at home. Grammy McCracken came over on Sunday and has been taking real good care of him while mommy is getting better. I got some medicine to help and it seems to be working. I just have to say, hormones are crazy!!!!

38 Weeks & 2 Days

At my doctor appointment this morning I was 1cm dilated so they agreed to let me try to induce before we go straight for the c-section. So I check in tonight at the hospital and they will give me Cervadil to help soften my cervix. They will leave it in and start me on pitocin tomorrow morning. She said if I am not progressing by tomorrow afternoon/evening we will go ahead with the c-section. This will at least allow me to try to have him "naturally" rather than with surgery. I hope all the meds work and he makes his way into the world without surgery. Either way he will be born tomorrow it just depends on the method! We will post pictures as soon as we can!!!!

37 Weeks & 3 Days

Well I had my appointment today. He has not made any progress and neither has my cervix so we have scheduled a c-section for next Thursday, July 19th. I will get to see my little boy in 8 days, unless he decides to make a drastic change and come on his own before then. I am excited and scared at the same time. I guess this is better than trying to push a 10+ pounder out. I will let everyone know how it all goes as soon as I can. Wish me luck!

37 Weeks

I had my ultrasound yesterday. He is supposedly a whopping 8 lbs 10 oz right now. I know - he's HUGE! I have lovingly nicknamed him GIGANTOR for the time being. I am still hoping that the u/s is off by a little, but we won't know until he is born. I go to the doctor on Wednesday and I will hopefully be able to discuss delivery options. I want to try to avoid having a c-section, but induction won't really even be a topic if my cervix is not dilated or effaced yet. We will see how everything turns out and I will update after the appt.

36 Weeks & 6 Days (Kristin had Will today!!)

I had my doctor's appt this morning and there is still no change (no dilation and no effacement). I was a little disappointed, but I guess he is cozy in there. I go on Monday for another u/s to see how much he weighs now. Nothing else to report except that my bp was really good today. yay!

Kristin gave birth to William Wade Styers today. I only hope that I can have the kind of labor that she had. She started having contractions last night around 6pm. They went to the hospital around 11:00pm. Her water broke at 2:00am and she got an epidural. She was dilated to a 10 by 7:30 and had him at 7:45am after 2 pushes. He is 7lb 5.5oz and 20" long. He has beautiful blond hair and is adorable. He seems to be doing a LOT of sleeping today. Here is my first picture of him:

36 Weeks

We had an ultrasound today. Everything went great today. They did not check his weight again, but will at the appt next Monday. THe fluid looks good and everything seems to be working properly. His face looks fatter to me this week, but it may have just been his position. He is still head down, but he keeps back forth from left or right so today he was curled up with his back on my left and his face, arms and legs towards the right. He flip flops like a pancake in there though so there is no telling where he will end up. The doctor checked my BP and it looked really good today. I see the obgyn on Friday and will update after that. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO EVERYONE!!! BE SAFE!!! DON'T CATCH ANY TREES ON FIRE!!
